EV Charging
myenergi zappi EV Charger Installation
A myenergi zappi home charging installation — David’s personal recommendation, with smart and solar-compatible charging.

My Favourite EV Charger to Install
At Macdonald Edinburgh Electrical, we’ve installed a wide range of electric vehicle chargers over the years, but there’s one that has always stood out to me: the myenergi zappi.
If a customer asks me which EV charger I’d recommend, my answer is always the same: the zappi.
It’s a well-designed, reliable charger with excellent smart charging features, and it’s particularly good for customers who already have solar panels or are thinking about installing them in the future.
For this project, we installed a myenergi zappi EV charger, providing the homeowner with a convenient and intelligent way to charge their electric vehicle at home.
Why I Recommend the zappi
One of the things I particularly like about the zappi is its flexibility.
It can operate like a conventional home EV charger, but it also has intelligent charging modes that can make better use of electricity generated by solar panels.
With the appropriate installation and settings, the zappi can prioritise surplus solar generation when charging your vehicle, helping reduce the amount of electricity purchased from the grid.
It also offers scheduled charging, making it useful for customers who want to take advantage of cheaper overnight electricity tariffs.
And because it’s made by myenergi, it can work alongside other compatible energy management products, including the eddi solar power diverter.
For me, it’s a charger that offers a good balance of reliability, functionality and ease of use.
Installed Properly, From Start to Finish
As with all our electrical work, we take pride in ensuring the installation is neat, safe and properly finished.
Before installing an EV charger, we assess the property’s electrical supply, consider the most suitable cable route and make sure the necessary electrical protection is in place.
Once installed, we carry out the required electrical testing and commissioning.
We also take the time to show customers how to use their new charger, explain the different charging modes and help them understand the smart features.
There’s no point installing a charger packed with technology if the customer doesn’t know how to get the best out of it.
More Than Just Charging Your Car
As more households install solar panels, battery storage and other renewable energy technologies, EV charging is becoming an important part of home energy management.
With the right equipment, these systems can work together to make better use of the electricity available.
That’s one of the reasons I continue to recommend the zappi.
If you’re thinking about having an EV charger installed and want my recommendation, the myenergi zappi is always at the top of my list.
